Our classy 2yo Hit The Bid came good in emphatic fashion to win the Group 3 Curragh Stakes. Given an excellent ride again by Leigh Roche, he came there travelling comfortably and looked like he would go away to win easily. I wasnt suprised to see him tire a little in the last furlong since he was only about 90% fit after a 3 month break and in addition the ground was softer than ideal for him. We've held this horse in very high regard from day one. We had him in the Phonex Stakes (Group 1) but that came too soon for him and a few weeks ago I entered him for next month's Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2). He's a beautiful big athletic colt who is still quite weak but has the quality to see him through. I think he will be a hell of a horse next year when he has matured into that big frame of his.

I bought this horse at Tattersalls Newmarket Yearling Sales for The Straight To Victory Syndicate. I'm delighted for the syndicate since they have been fantastic supporters of the yard and are also a great bunch of sporting owners. They are having a particularly good season which is thoroughly deserved and long may it continue!

Hit The Bid has speed through and through in his pedigree. By top sire Exceed and Excel, his dam Selinka was a muliple Listed winner herself as was her dam and the family is packed with black type performers. He'll have no problem stepping up to 6 furlongs and will be seen to best effect on good ground or better. I think it's all ahead of him and he could go right to the top. Thanks to all my staff for the excellent job they are doing. We're in the first year of a 2 year plan to build a team of quality 2yo's and 3yo's. Hit The Bid will certainly be a 3yo of the highest calibre for the team next season. He's a very exciting horse and I rate him very highly. I expect to give him only one more run this season, in either the Flying Childers (Group 2) or Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2) and then we'll put him away for next season and give him time to develop.
