1st 2yo Runner of 2016 Is Impressive Winner of Season Opener At The Curragh

Mister Trader delivered on the considerable promise he's been showing at home by romping away with the traditional curtain raiser to the new flat season at the Curragh today (Tally Ho Stud European Breeders Fund Maiden, 5f). He's a lovely straight forward colt with a touch of class who takes everything in his stride.

He broke fast and showed such tremendous early speed that he had most of his rivals in trouble by half way. Still travelling well at the 2 furlong pole he quickened impressively again

to pull right away and win by 4 1/4 lengths with a ton in hand. He's a very smart colt and will have no problem stepping up to 6 or 7 furlongs, particularly when he gets the better ground

he would prefer.

The win was all the more impressive when we consider that this was just his second time on grass and we had left plenty to work on. I expect him to improve significantly from this run

and will look to step him up in grade, with the Marble Hill Stakes (Listed) being his most

likely next target.

Leigh gave him a lovely ride as ever, and it was great to see the Straight To Victory Syndicate enjoy another positive start to the season. This is their second 2yo to win first time out from just 3 runners, following Madame Thunder's debut win last season. The manner of victory today certainly augurs well for an exciting season ahead with Mister Trader.

He was another inexpensive purchase (I bought him for just EUR15,000 at the Tattersalls September Yearling Sale) and he has already exceeded that purchase price in earnings

since today he picked up the Plus 10 Bonus of EUR12,500 in addition to the winners prizemoney.

Many congratulation also to his breeder Mrs Imray and thanks to my excellent staff for a

great job done by all.
