Elzaam Blue made it 2 wins from his only 2 runs when taking the mile handicap impressively at Dundalk tonight. Although stepping into handicap company at this level after only one run is a very big ask for such an inexperienced horse we came here with a lot of confidence.
We had no doubt about his ability but you'd have to worry about his was lack of experience against good seasoned handicappers as that's always going to put you on the back foot straight away. We had seen a huge improvement in him since the last day and he's going to improve a ton again from this tonight.
I loved how he coasted through the race tonight and how he put the race to bed pretty quickly in the straight. Chris Hayes gave him a lovely ride and he was also very impressed with him.
I was thrilled again for owner Siobhán Nà Cheallaigh who is now 2 from 2 as an owner! And also thrilled for Philip Egan who led him up again tonight. It's a fantastic story how Philip went to the sales with such a small budget originally and bought him so cheaply. The patience he showed with the horse and all the work he put into him is being seen to great effect now.
There are valuable handicaps on the Guineas and Derby weekends at the Curragh that I think Elzaam Blue is made for. We might give him another race before then get a bit more experience into him. Depending on what happens with him after that he'd be a horse that I would have as part of my team for Dubai next year. He's definitely a horse that will do very well out there.
Many thanks for all the kind messages after the race and thanks to all our team for a job well done again.
